Simple Ways to Decorate for Christmas

Decorating for Christmas doesn't have to be difficult. It also doesn't have to be expensive. Here are some things that you can do to make your home Christmassy without spending a lot of time or money:
  • Get Christmas candles. Cinnamon-scented candles are the best type to get for the holidays but get you can buy any red, wintry, warm candles that you like.
  • Light a fire. If you have a fireplace then bring that Christmas feeling into your home by lighting a fire.
  • Get a good Christmas tree. A great tree can be the centerpiece of your Christmas decorating. Decorate it however you see fit!
  • Get new light fixtures. Most people get holiday lights but it's a better investment to get holiday-inspired light fixtures that you can use throughout the year. Try Access Lighting for some good ideas. (Alternatively you could just put colored bulbs in your existing light fixtures.)
  • Use holiday scarves to decorate everything. Put them on tables and dressers as runners. Use them as tablecloths and place mats. Hang them on the wall. Cheap and pretty!
What other little things can you do to decorate for Christmas without spending a lot of time or money?

Get Medical Supplies from Government Auctions

In an ideal world you would be able to afford any medical supplies that you might need. If you needed a walk in bath tub or a lift chair then you would simply go to a store that sells these special medical supplies and purchase it. Your health insurance would cover the entire cost and you could live your life without financial stress.

Unfortunately the real world doesn't always work this way. Many people who need important medical supplies to be more comfortable, healthy or safe can not afford the supplies that they need. Health insurance doesn't always cover enough of the cost. There are ways to find medical supplies at a lower price though.

The best option is to find a good medical supply store which sells what you need at a price that is fair. This store will likely work with your insurance company to get you the best deal on what you need. However, if this option fails you then your next best bet is to look into government auctions.

Government auctions are auctions through which the government is selling items that it no longer needs. These items sometimes include medical supplies. It's hit or miss as far as whether or not an auction will have what you need. If what you need is there, though, you can get it at a good price. It's not the best choice but it's one option to consider if you're having trouble buying the medical supplies that you need.

Harrods Is Selling Gold!

Harrods is a popular UK department store. In fact, it's one of the biggest department stores in the entire world so it's popular even with people who don't live in London. It's known for its clothing, housewares, furniture and everything else that you might find at a department store. And now it's making headlines as a department store that is doing something a little bit different: selling gold.

Harrods is in agreement with the rest of the business world which says that the recession is a great time to sell gold. Three reasons are cited as making this true:
  1. Both the British pound and the U.S. dollar are weak right now. Gold isn't.
  2. Interest rates are low. You aren't going to make a lot of money investing most places but gold is climbing in value.
  3. The market is shaky. We're not sure what's going on with stocks and other things in the market. We do know that the value of gold is going up.

What this means is that it's a good time to buy gold if you have the money to do so. And it's a good time to sell gold if you need the money from people who can afford to buy it. Harrods is getting in on this trend by starting to sell gold to the people who can buy it. They're selling both gold coins and gold bars. However, they admit that they're pricier than other places where you can buy gold so look twice at them if you're considering buying anything right now.

Why Florida Medicare Matters So Much Right Now

One of the most important issues in the news today is the issue of health care. Almost everyone in the country is willing to acknowledge that there are problems with our health care system. However, nobody seems quite sure what to do about those problems. People who currently rely on our healthcare system should definitely be paying attention to today's headlines. The changes that are taking place in the health care system today are changes that can greatly affect their lives.

Florida Medicare is an example of a topic that deserves a lot of attention right now. Sure, all individual health insurance in Florida is important. However what's of utmost importance is the insurance that covers the large percentage of the Florida population which is elderly. For many people, this means Medicare. Changes to the Medicare system are going to affect this large population. As a result, people who use this health insurance should stay abreast of those changes.

This isn't to say that anyone should be alarmed about Florida Medicare. There are no proposed changes right now that give cause for concern. In fact, any changes that do take place in the future are likely to be of benefit to the people who use this insurance. All that should be noted is that this is an important issue of the day and shouldn't go ignored by the people that it affects.

The Trials and Tribulations of Managing

If you have ever organized a team at work — or anywhere else, really — you know how difficult it is to keep track of everybody. You have to keep everybody's contact information and other information, you have to remember to send reminders of events, and you have to keep track of who has RSVP'd and who hasn't.

I know from the stories my husband — who is a manager, and also often a special project lead on top of his normal duties — tells that this is all much easier said than done. And the bigger the team, the bigger the challenge.

His company does this all via Microsoft Outlook, sending event invitations and notifications, and with shared calenders. It's not the most effective method, though, and he often complains about its downfalls. For instance, if you have a lot going on, you may never realize until too late that someone hasn't responded to an event invitation.

Another and possibly better way to do it would be with some type of team management software. I first heard of this as a way to manage sports teams, but it can also be used for corporate teams. In this kind of setup, everyone can log into the software online, check a calender, maintain updated contact information, etc. The team lead can set the system up to send event notifications and reminder emails automatically, for instance, so that you don't have to check back to make sure everyone RSVP'd. Group management software offers a lot of solutions for keeping track of everyone on your team, particularly a special project team or something where you don't have contact with everyone every day!

How do you deal with the challenges of keeping track of your team members?

In Trouble with the Law

in-trouble-with-the-law We were raised to be law abiding citizens, and our father always tried to teach us that it was smarter to follow the rules than to pay the price for breaking them.  It has been something that I have lived by for most of my life, but my brother had other plans.

I guess it came as no surprised when he was arrested for shoplifting, but I think we were still shocked all the same.  If you haven’t experienced the fear of having a loved one facing incarceration, then I am very happy for you – it isn’t a pleasant feeling at all.  I suppose the biggest issue we had was that we didn’t know if he actually committed the crime or not, and we were going to have to wait until the court date to see.

Our parents tried to be proactive, and did some research to find the best Tampa criminal defense lawyers available.  It was going to be their first experience with any of the Tampa criminal attorneys, and they wanted to make sure it was a positive one.

The court date is in just two weeks and at that point we will see what the lawyers can do and if we can save our brother.  Whatever the outcome, I just hope he learns a lesson from this mistake that he has made.
